Young Vietnamese wins two int’l piano awards

Last year, Mi won the Gold Prize at the Music Festival and Competition Cheonan in the Republic of Korea and the first prize at the F. Chopin International Piano Competition in Singapore. She is voted as one of the 20 top young representatives of Vietnam.

Vietnamese rockers win favour at ASEAN fest

Xo, 33, became famous in Viet Nam after composing Dong Ho Treo Tuong (Wall Clock), which won the Song of the Year award at the national Vietnamese Songs music contest in 2009.

100 delegates attend seminar on amateur musical performance

International delegates from France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and the Cyrus Republic. The seminar was part of activities to gather data on the amateur performance art for submission to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to recorgnise it as intangible cultural heritage.

Music festival to foster regional amity

Seventeen professional singers representing television stations from eight ASEAN countries – Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and hosts Viet Nam, as well as two other guest singers from Japan will participate in the festival. Pop stars Thu Minh and Kasim Hoang Vu, and winners of HTV song contest Singing Star on TV in 2008 and 2010 – Do Tung Lam and H'Zina Bya, represented Viet Nam at the event.

Vietnamese artist wins 1st Chopin Int’l Piano Competition

This is the first time Fryderyk attended such an international competition. Chopin is his favourite composer and he has been playing his works for many years.

Voting controversy mars talent quest

Chuyen, 24, was the first female to win the prize at the contest, the fourth of its kind for those between 18 and 25 years of age. However, the contest, first held in 2004, was marred by controversy surrounding the voting system. Many people in the audience and at home said they did not receive confirmation of their votes from contest organisers.

New Vietnam Idol

Mai Huong, of the contest’s two finalists, showed her confidence on a big stage, according to composer Quoc Trung. Uyen Linh immediately responded with ‘Giac mo nao voi toi’.

Vietnam idol crowned

Twenty two-year-old Tran Nguyen Uyen Linh, who is a graduate of the Vietnam Academy of Diplomacy, was showered with a cash US$20,000 cash prize and a year-long record contract with the Ho Chi Minh City-based BHD company.
