Việt Nam did not participate in or dispatch observers to the 2011 Cobra Gold Exercise in Thailand, said Major-General Nguyễn Thanh Tuấn, Spokesman of the Ministry for National Defense.
Major-General Tuấn, who is also Head of the Information and Training Department under the Ministry of National Defense, stressed this on February 10.
Healso reiterated that Việt Nam has pursued a consistent policy of not joining any military alliances.
Earlier, some local newspapers quoted foreign sources as saying that Việt Nam assigned representatives to the 2011 Cobra Gold Exercise, an event that has been held bilaterally by the US and Thailand since 1982.
