In the second half of August (from August 15 to 31), Vietnam imported over 536,000 tons of oil and gas worth over $500 million, bringing the total figures in August to 867,000 tons valued at $824 million, the General Department of Vietnam Customs reported on Friday.
Thus, the country’s oil and gas import in August increased 70% from July and was equal to the figure of the same period last year. The country’s import value for oil and gas in August was up 68% month on month and 50% year on year, the agency said.
Dung Quat oil refinery officially suspended operations to carry out an overall maintenance (from July 15 to September 12), therefore Vietnam had to imported one million tons of oil and gas, according to the general director of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Ltd Co.
Totally, in Jan-Aug, Vietnam imported 7.4 million tons of oil and gas valued at $6.7 billion, rising 3% in volume and up to 50% in value from the same period last year.
