Value of farm exports expected to rise

Figures from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that Viet Nam's exports of agricultural, forestry and aquacultural products last year gained high value due to high prices and stable markets. The global economy would continue recovering, the ministry expects, and the export demand for agricultural, forestry and aquacultural products would increase.

Continued support for Vietnam’s forestry sector

In the period 2011-2015, the Forest Sector Support Partnership (FSSP) will expand the involvement of the private sector, industry associations and non-governmental organisations in the country, Juergen Hess, Co-chair of the annual review meeting of the FSSP said.

The 3 million EUR project, will be implemented by the Forestry Directorate under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) until 2013. With its head office in Hanoi, the project will focus its work on pilot areas, including the Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan province, Na Hang Nature Reserve in Tuyen Quang province, Pu Hu and Pu Luong Nature Reserves in Thanh Hoa province, Bach Ma National Park in Thua Thien Hue province and the buffer zones of these protected areas.

Gov’t requests periodical reports from SOEs

Enterprises having projects in such areas as mineral exploitation, processing industries, electricity, water supply, waste treatment, information and communications, real estate, transportation, trade and services, will have to present monthly reports on net revenue, quantity and output of their products. Enterprises operating in agro-forestry-fishery, construction, and foreign-related services will have to make quarterly reports.

Nation targets 5% poverty rate by 2020

Major policies for poor people include policies that provide preferential credit, free and employment-oriented vocational training, free agricultural-forestry-fishery extension services, fee exemptions and reductions for education, and other support for poor people. Funds will also be allocated to upgrade medical infrastructure to guarantee basic health services to poor people and suitable interventions will be designed to mobilise and use social resources and the State budget for poor patients suffering fatal diseases. The funds will support medical costs and meals when patients are moved for higher levels of treatment.

Viet Nam, Myanmar seek to expand multifaceted ties

During the five-day meeting, the two sides aim to review the implementation of high-ranking agreements, including those reached at the sixth meeting of the joint committee in 2008. The country earned 1.72 billion USD from agro-forestry and seafood exports in October, raising its total export turnover in the first ten months of this year to 15.6 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of nearly 23 percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
