Speaking at a workshop on supporting exporters to the Russian market held recently in Hồ Chí Minh City, Nguyễn Ngọc Quân from the European Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that to support businesses which conduct import-export activities with Russia, the ministry will strengthen the organization of seminars, dialogues and information exchange between the two countries’ localities and businesses, as well as build financial support policies for trade promotion program in Russia.

Shrimp exports expected to reach over $2b

During the first 10 months this year, Vietnam exported over 195,000 tonnes of shrimp, earning $1.68 billion. Vietnam’s three key markets including Japan, the US and European Union (EU) saw a strong increase in both quantity and value.

WWF again asked to remove tra red listing

The association has also written to the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry suggesting the Viet Nam Government and the ministry lobby WWF members in six European countries to correct misinformation about the fish. Videotapes should be used to show the sustainable production of tra fish, shrimp and tilapia in Viet Nam, it says.

S Koreans start $139m steel mill

The US$130 million mill, to cover 39,000 square metres, is expected to operate in February 2012. The mill will be the biggest stainless steel plant in the country, with the capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year and will employ 400 labourers. Products will be provided for local demand and exported to Southeast Asian, European and American markets.

Tra fish get ‘red list' reprieve

WWF members in a number of European countries put Viet Nam's tra fish products on the red list of its consumer guidance manual for 2010-11. But Viet Nam last week requested the WWF to remove the fish from the list, which advises consumers not to buy the Vietnamese product.
