New report tackles land corruption issue head on

Commissioned by the Embassy of Denmark, Sweden and the World Bank, the report, “Recognising and reducing corruption risks in land management in Vietnam”, evaluated the leading causes of corruption in this country. According to Dao Trung Chinh, deputy director of the land department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), the Vietnamese government had been dealing actively with the above issues.

Transparency, key to corruption fight

The statement was made after the Danish and Swedish embassies and the World Bank published two reports concerning recognising and reducing corruption risks in the land management sector in Viet Nam. Director of the World Bank in Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa said fighting against land-related corruption, which is considered to be a big challenge for Viet Nam, might take time and effort.

VN receives Siemens fund for anti-corruption in business

Mr. Erdal Elver, Chairman and CEO of Siemens Việt Nam said, along with the Vietnamese partner, the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), firms throughout the country will be gathered to strive for a sound business environment, ensure consistence and transparency in business activities.

Siemens prioritises corruption-free deals

In Viet Nam, the initiative aims at bringing companies together to work towards improving integrity and transparency in the way business is conducted. Raising awareness, promoting dialogue among stakeholders, and training will be the key activities. Erdal Elver, president and CEO of Siemens Vietnam, said together with the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), his firm will promote a healthy business environment in Viet Nam.

Enabling Vietnam to move forward

The focus is on administrative reform, anti-corruption measures, the issuance of legal documents, intellectual property rights, the control of fake goods, infrastructure development, opportunities, challenges and the way forward in 2011. The participants will also discuss issues related to public management, the transparency and operational efficiency of State economic groups, the business environment and proposals made by businesses at the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) which was held five days earlier.

Awareness a key tool in fighting corruption

To implement the Party’s Xth Congress resolution, the Party Central Committee issued a resolution on “enhancing the Party’s leadership over the prevention and combat of corruption” at the third plenum in July, 2006, according to Trong. He noted that the Party Central Committee’s adoption of the first-ever resolution on fighting corruption again demonstrated the Party’s political will, as well as its role and responsibility in beating the scourge.

Transparency key to fighting corruption

The eighth semi-annual dialogue, which was co-organised by the Government Inspectorate (GI), the Office of the Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption (OSCAC), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Swedish Embassy, discussed land-related corruption. Viet Nam has taken great strides in terms of legal framework, preventive measures, administrative reform, inspections and prosecutions among others, according to a report presented by OSCAC at the dialogue.

Proper land management needs greater efforts

This is a common recommendation put forward by international delegates at the 8 th Dialogue on Anti-Corruption with the theme, “Anti-corruption in land administration and use” held in Hanoi on November 25.
