Readers celebrate Viet Nam Book Day

The day, entitled Reading Books for Tomorrow, was supported by publishing houses, companies and bookstores, who agreed to discount one book by 20-30 per cent. Activities were held to connect readers with writers and instruct students how to choose books. There was a cover illustration contest, a talk on reading culture and speed reading, performance poetry, a favourite books competition and other activities.

Vietnam’s biodiversity seriously at risk

Amongst the 882 endangered species that were listed in Vietnam ’s Red Book in 1997, nine species of animals including the Sumatra rhinoceros, the Kouprey bull, tapirs, otter civets, the Japanese eel, several species of carp, spotted deer, estuarine crocodile (crocodylus porosos) and two species of orchids (paphiopadilum) are in danger of extinction.

VN publishes book on land border with China

The book was jointly compiled by the Ministry of Information and Communication’s Foreign News Service Department, the Foreign Ministry’s National Border Committee, and the Vietnam Association of History Science, said Deputy Information and Communication Minister Do Quy Doan.

Books sales rev up ahead of holidays

The detective story published 44 years after Dan wrote it and 20 years after his death has received a warm reception from readers. "I read the 344-page book in night. I liked the story and the detailed writing style," literary critic, Lai Nguyen An said.

Eurocham sees investment climate improvement

The statement was made by Alain Cany, Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Eurocham) while launching the “White Book of Trade/Investment Issues and Recommendations” in Hanoi on Nov. 25. The White Book, the third edition, will serve as a reference for the Vietnamese Government to address limitations in Vietnam ’s competitiveness such as the quality of labour force, infrastructure, energy supply, encouragement of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), and regulatory and administrative reform, said the Eurocham chairman.

Book explores C20th Vietnamese art history

The 400-page book, My Thuat Viet Nam The Ky 20 (Vietnamese Fine Arts during the 20th Century), has four chapters and two addenda of photos that feature different styles of painting by talented artists of the last century.

Copy of giant poetry book presented to UNESCO
